When artificial intelligence meets science.

A team of scientists of the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) has developed a study using artificial intelligence to predict where and when a bolt of lightning will strike.

By combining a series of factors such as atmospheric pressure, wind speed, and relative humidity it is possible to create a predictive model to recognize and understand the conditions that lead to the creation of a lightning bolt. It is possible that in the future our smartphones will be able to warn us in real time of the arrival of a lightning bolt, giving us time to take shelter.
